Kufri | Crow Museum of Asian Art

Discover KUFRI’s first museum installation at the Crow Museum of Asian Art at the University of Texas at Dallas, where cultural heritage, immigrant identity, and handmade textiles come together in a powerful celebration of indigo. Curated by Natalia Di Pietrantonio, this installation draws inspiration from the antique kimonos of the Montgomery Collection, blending education and creativity for a truly immersive experience.

At the heart of the installation is Ruminations, an 8'x7' textile masterpiece showcasing indigo's global journey across Japan, India, and West Africa. Crafted using Japanese boro mending techniques and kantha stitching, this dynamic piece juxtaposes contemporary artistry with timeless traditions.

From educational displays of indigo seeds and dyeing techniques to a curated collection of finished goods, KUFRI’s installation offers museum visitors a cross-cultural exploration of this revered pigment. This milestone marks KUFRI’s foray into the art world, paving the way for future collaborations that honor identity, culture, and heritage crafts.
